Stirling

Stirling

A small city occupying a historically important location in Scotland between Highlands and Lowlands. That’s why it’s got a big castle!

In fact, Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s great treasures - it’s a must see - especially as it gives a real sense of life in Scotland at the time of the Stuart monarchs.

Bannockburn, Braveheart and more.

Along with Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument gives another insight into Scotland’s story. The Victorians built this tall tower to the memory of William Wallace, Scotland’s first freedom fighter. Great views from the top, plus audio-visuals, enactments and much more.
Ask any Scot and they’ll tell you that the Battle of Bannockburn was fought in 1314, winning centuries of independence from England. The story of the battle is told at the Bannockburn Visitor Centre. It’s pretty high-tech and a vivid re-creation of the encounter. Definitely different!

Meanwhile the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum takes a more traditional approach and tells the story of the development of the city. Worth a look!

Doune Castle is a very impressive fortress within a few minutes’ drive from Stirling. For some, it’s all about ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ movie scenes. For others, it’s the association with ‘Outlander’ that draws them. Atmospheric, picturesque - one of Scotland’s great mediaeval castles.
Nearby, we can visit Deanston Distillery, formerly a cotton mill, converted to a distillery in the 1960s. Tours, tastings and more, by the banks of the River Teith. Alternatively, on our way back to Glasgow we can call at Glengoyne Distillery. That’s another great visit you could include on your Stirling trip.

I would love to show you Scotland!
